The Life Changing Benefits of Personal Development

Personal Development is investing in yourself with the intent of creating a more fulfilling life. It makes you more capable of handling whatever life might throw your way. By working to improve yourself today, you reap the life changing benefits of personal development and create a more successful tomorrow.

Personal development puts you in the drivers seat of your life. You proactively go out and make good things happen, instead of waiting around and hoping something good happens. What an incredible power!

Let’s talk about some of the ways investing in personal development showers you with benefits that will truly transform your life.

What are the Benefits of Personal Development?

There are more benefits to investing in yourself than could be covered in a single blog post, but these are the ones that I’ve found to have the most impact in my own life.

My hope is that by the end of this article, you’ll have caught the vision of continual self improvement. I hope I’ll be able to convince you that it’s worth the effort and that you’ll commit to yourself to start today!

Benefit #1: It Feels Good

As you invest in your own self development, your happiness increases. Your self-esteem improves, and you like yourself more. There is a feeling of contentment and personal fulfillment that comes from working to improve yourself and your situation in life.

The fact is that becoming happier is one of the main points of personal development! It doesn’t happen immediately. There seems to be some natural law that requires us to put in the work first, so we can reap the rewards a little later on. If you pursue self development on a consistent basis, continually improving, even if it’s only a little bit at a time, then sooner or later you will end up with the rewards!

Benefit #2: You Get More Fulfilling Relationships

As you improve yourself, you become more interesting and likeable. You’ll find people wanting to be around you more. And the kind of people you’ll attract will be like-minded individuals who are also on the road of self improvement themselves.

Both with yourself and others… Self development makes you a more interesting person others will want to be around. Success attracts other like-minded people to you.

Benefit #3: It Gives You a Sense of Purpose and Direction

Do you ever find yourself not knowing what you really want out of life? We’re all only in this world for what seems like the blink of an eye. There isn’t really any time to waste wandering around and wondering what you want to do, or what your purpose is. Life is just too short.

When you engage in a personal development plan, you get the key to start unlocking the vault of your own self understanding. You begin to understand what will really bring you (and others) the maximum amount of joy in life. You begin to understand what’s important to you, and you begin to focus your time and energy on things that truly speak to you at the core.

Do you want to develop a plan for your life? Do you want to understand your purpose in life? Start designing a personal development plan today!

Benefit #4: You’ll Have More Motivation

The more you understand your purpose and have a sense of direction, the easier it is to stand up and start taking action. Over time, you’ll find that tasks and responsibilities that once seemed like a burden and took a lot of time become easier and you can get them done quicker.

You’ll also begin to realize that certain things you were spending your time and energy on before just aren’t worth it, because they don’t move you toward your true vision for your life. Those things will drop away, leaving you with a clear path to joy and fulfillment.

Benefit #5: You’ll Build Greater Resilience

Change comes to each and every one of us. Sometimes the change is slow, and we barely notice it. But other times it comes as a jolting shock. As you continue down your path of self discovery and self improvement, you develop skills and attributes that better equip you to deal with and adapt to that kind of change.

Personal development won’t keep “bad” things from happening in your life, but it will certainly make you better equipped to handle them when they do. Your sense of purpose and direction, as well as your self confidence and ability to adapt will make you much better at coping and ultimately overcoming any obstacles life may throw your way.

Benefit #6: Your Ability to Reach Your Goals Will Increase

One of the central precepts of personal development is setting and achieving goals. Continually setting and achieving goals will propel you forward in life and result in progress beyond your imagination!

One of the best ways to reach your goals is to make sure that they’re well defined and crystal clear. A personal development plan will give you clarity about what you want to achieve, and therefore make it more likely you’ll achieve it. In addition, your self improvement efforts will result in more self control, focus, and energy. Those benefits will all contribute to the achievement of your goals.

Benefit #7: You’ll Make Better Decisions

One of the key life changing benefits of personal development is that you come to understand yourself more clearly and objectively. This understanding and clarity help with your decision making, and the actions you take in life.

In addition to understanding yourself more clearly, a self development program will make you more informed. It will arm you with more information. Essentially, you become smarter. And the allows you to make more educated decisions.

Benefit #8: Your Health Will Improve

There are three key areas of human health – physical, mental and emotional. The benefits of personal development impact all three of those areas.

Keep track of your positive and negative thinking patterns and actions. As you do, you’ll start to become better able to change them. You’ll become more capable of preventing negative behaviors and better at encouraging positive ones.

Benefit #9: You’ll Have More Financial Success

Want to make more money? Starting a self development program will help you get there. The more you invest in improving yourself, the more you will be able to help other people. And the more you’re able to help other people, the more financial success you’ll have.

Success expert Zig Ziglar said, “You Can Have Everything In Life You Want, If You Will Just Help Enough Other People Get What They Want.” One of the benefits of self development is that you become more capable of helping other people get what they want. And the more you do that, the more you get what you want!

Benefit #10: More Opportunities Will Come Your Way

Want to improve your “luck?” Self development is the trick. Your luck seems to get better the more you dedicate yourself to self improvement. Why? Because you develop more skills. More persistence. More resiliency. And more power. All of these things seem to improve your luck like magic.

Benefit #11: You’ll Overcome Fear

How often to you find yourself feeling afraid? Afraid you’ll lose your job. Afraid you’ll lose your significant other? Afraid of something you can’t even put your finger on? Start a self development program! One of the major components of such a program is pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, which his scary! But the more you do it, the better you get at it. The practice of intentionally facing fear again and again is like lifting weights – the muscles get stronger and stronger, more and more capable. And fear becomes a less and less common feeling.

Benefit #12: You’ll Boost Your Confidence

Personal development helps you believe in yourself. As you work toward self development goals persistently, you will achieve them. And as you become more and more accustomed to achieving your goals, your confidence increases. In addition, as you gain new skills, you become more powerful. That sense of power will grow in you like a seed, eventually sprouting into a bountiful growth of self confidence that is continually increasing.

You Need to Take Action To Get The Benefits of Personal Development

If all the benefits of personal development discussed above sound good to you… If you want them in your life… you’ve got to work for it. You’ve got to take action. Simply reading a thousand articles about self improvement won’t do one thing to contribute to actual self development in your life. For that, you need to take action. You need to do the work.

As you begin your program of self improvement, you will face resistance. That resistance can come in many forms, but trust me, it will come. And one of the ways you can arm yourself to fight resistance is to know that it’s coming. Don’t be surprised by it. Don’t let it catch you off guard. Know that it will come, and you’ll recognize it for what it is – the number one enemy of self improvement.

You’ll never fully beat resistance. It will always be there. But the more times you face it and overcome it, the better you’ll get to beating it in the future. It’s like an upward spiral taking you to higher and higher levels of success. Don’t stop when resistance comes. Be prepared. Push through it, and you’ll triumph along the way.

How Journaling Can Change Your Life

Since the dawn of humanity, people have been writing things down about their lives. From cave paintings made tens of thousands of years ago, to modern dedicated journals, people have always written things down. Essentially, they’ve kept journals. Here’s how journaling can change your life.

Why have people always kept journals? Because it has changed their lives for the better. Here are 5 ways writing certain things down, such as your daily experiences, goals, dreams and desires, can improve your life dramatically.

1. Journaling can change your life by clearing and rejuvenating your mind.

All throughout the day, your brain is working. It’s taking in new information, filing things away for later use, and making decisions you’re not even aware of. Writing your thoughts down is a way to process all that information. To clear it out and let it go, so your mind is more at peace.

Sometimes you may vent in your writing. Venting your frustrations in writing gets all those negative thoughts rolling around in your head out. This is sure to make you feel better. When your head is full of clutter, you don’t feel at ease. But when you clear that clutter out, your brain can become sharper and more creative. Better able to focus on solving the problems you’re facing and finding solutions.

2. Journaling is a way to process your emotions.

Journaling helps you to “feel your feelings.” Unless you’re highly trained in mindfulness, something that can take an entire lifetime, you probably aren’t processing your emotions – or maybe even acknowledging them.

Many of us were taught from a young age that it’s better to hide or suppress your emotions than to express them. That has led us to believe that our emotions are embarrassing, inconvenient, or even dangerous. This is far from the truth.

Writing things down in a journal will validate your emotions and re-connect you to what is real. It can help you dig through the layers of self-judgement and self-editing. It allows you to release your difficult emotions, leading to discover new insights about what the pain or discomfort in our life is really telling us.

3. Journaling is a way to keep a record of the past.

Our brains forget most things over time. The experiences you’ve had, the lessons you’ve learned, the people you’ve interacted with – memories of all of these things fade over time. Keeping a journal is a way for you to keep a record of those things that you would otherwise forget over time.

Going back to read over that record later on can be fascinating and insightful. You can re-live the good times, and gain greater understanding and appreciation for the hard times now that there’s some distance from them. You can look for all the good in your life, and increase your gratitude – something that will increase your overall sense of well being.

4. How journaling can change your life by helping you reach your goals.

Writing down our goals and desires makes it much more likely that we’ll achieve them. There is something magical in the act of physically writing down what you’re trying to achieve. Not much is known about the reasons for this, but it has been proven time and time again through experience that when you write down your goals, you’re much more likely to reach them.

5. Journaling gets you to think big.

Writing things down gives you a safe space to aim high and think big. It helps you to stay motivated, and keeps you safer from untrue self-limiting beliefs.

Journaling gives you the chance to explore dreams and desires that you might not feel safe telling anyone else about yet. And it leaves you a record you can return to later.

The Bottom Line

Are you convinced yet that journaling can change your life? If not, there’s no better way to find out than by giving it a try. I challenge you to start journaling today. I know that if you do, your life will change for the better. You may want to take a look at another post we’ve written that will give you some tips on how to make journaling a life-long habit.

And that’s how journaling can change your life. So go grab a pen right now and start writing down whatever comes to your mind. It doesn’t matter what it is. Let the amazing miracle that is your brain decide for itself. Just put the pen to paper, and let the magic begin!
